Health in the Backyard

Other Projects

Health in the Backyard is a community engagement project initiated by OUCRU that examines the perceptions, attitudes and perceived health risks to animal farmers in Dong Thap province, in the central Mekong Delta in Southern Vietnam.  The project utilizes a well-honed participatory approach using photography as the methodology to examine these

animal-human disease transmission risks and the perceptions about them. The narratives have then been developed into photo-stories and used as tools to stimulate group discussions that will help communities, researchers, government health educators, government vets and other professionals to further understand the

farmer’s perceived and present disease risks. The project has been warmly received by communities, government agencies and the research community, so we look forward to the current scaling up that is underway, taking the project to Northern and Central provinces in Vietnam.
