This music documentary series tracks the rich and undiscovered rock music history from the 1960s through to the 1970s throughout Southeast Asia. From the psychedelic inspired rock of Vietnam and Cambodia through to the fuzz and garage sounds of Indonesia through to the beat, go go, ye ye sounds of Singapore and Hong Kong. The series will connect with and
examine the history, placing it in the social and political context of the times. Starting with the Vietnamese story, this first film looks at the parallel growth of a truly Vietnamese rock sound and the emergence of southern independence, followed by the sudden void when both the music and the state disappeared on April 30 1975. From US copy cat 50’s rock bands to the
development of a grass roots rock movement, with festivals in Saigon Zoo this is an intriguing era lost in the twist and turns of history.
